if you were a melody
it wouldn't be the kind that's teeth rotting sweet
due to your life long before you and I would meet,
it'd be the one that's driven by passion and scars
your sounds of blues, rhythm and soul helps others know where they are.
if you were a melody
people would listen and be off on a journey
it's a been-there-done-that which I can't sing very bouncy
to far away places that seem familiar to them
you're a melody for the devoted, longing for life to ceasing dim.
your notes
your tone
not all in perfect pitch
your flow
your composition
needs you to scratch an itch.
if you were a melody
i could sit and listen all day
after years of looking the other way
it's now the one I would wear out
your tune is what i can't live without.
